Julian Reyes rented a single chair from a barbershop on Guadalupe Street in 2016, four years out of cosmetology school and tired of being told how fast a color appointment was supposed to go. Ciruela — Spanish for plum — was the name on the sign before there was a shop behind it: a placeholder that stuck, because it was the color he kept mixing back into every formula anyway.

The shop moved twice before landing in its current spot in the Railyard Arts District, growing one chair at a time — color, then nails, then a wax room, then a facial suite built around a single skincare line sourced from a grower outside Abiquiú. Every stylist at Ciruela still books their own return clients personally; nobody hands off a color formula to someone who didn’t mix it the first time. That’s the whole operating philosophy, really — small enough that the person who did your color last time is the one doing it again.

K18 and Olaplex in the color room; Dermalogica in the facial suite. The Desert Bloom facial line is built around prickly pear seed oil from a single grower outside Abiquiú.
Every color formula is written down and kept on file under your name, so a repeat visit starts from what actually worked last time, not a guess.
First-time color, tint, or lash clients need a 48-hour patch test before the appointment. Tell your stylist about any reaction history when you book.
A $25 deposit holds your chair and applies toward your service total. Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours ahead to keep it.
